Job Description
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Communications Coordinator for the College of Medicine- Chattanooga (COM-C) serves as the point person and lead for marketing and communications from the college and serves as the liaison between the COM-C and the campus marketing and communications teams. The responsibility includes developing print and electronic content, event coordination, and support of alumni relations, continuing education, and social media.
Responsibilities
- Serves as liaison between the Office of Communications and Marketing and the COM-C administration to meet marketing and advertising needs for different areas of the college.
- Works in conjunction with the Office of Communications and Marketing to develop print and electronic content.
- Serves as content owner for COM-C social media sites; assists COM-C leaders with social media engagement.
- Serves as media/outreach contact person for the COM-C working with the Office of Communications and Marketing.
- Supports academic and outreach efforts with event support (Alper Awards, graduation, awards dinners).
- Manages the content on the COM-C pages on the UT Health Science Center's main website.
- Creates and updates various communication modalities, including electronic (i.e., blogs, newsletters, emails) and print formats.
- Develop press releases and/or new stories for the website and local press.
- Completes special projects as assigned by college leadership.
- Promotes alumni involvement and financial support through regular email communication.
- Organizes and hosts the biannual alumni meetings.
- Collaborates with COM-C leadership to develop other opportunities for alumni engagement.
- Identifies target audiences and, with input, determines the best ways to present information to internal and external audiences.
- Perform other duties as performed.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of directly related experience in communications, marketing, or related area; OR a combination of education and experience to equal five (5) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work in a team environment and maintain excellent working relationships.
- Ability to plan and organize work and meet schedules and timelines under tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Computer skills and knowledge of social media sites are necessary.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
