Job Description
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Communications Coordinator for the College of Medicine- Chattanooga (COM-C) serves as the point person and lead for marketing and communications from the college and serves as the liaison between the COM-C and the campus marketing and communications teams. The responsibility includes developing print and electronic content, event coordination, and support of alumni relations, continuing education, and social media.


Responsibilities
  1. Serves as liaison between the Office of Communications and Marketing and the COM-C administration to meet marketing and advertising needs for different areas of the college.
  2. Works in conjunction with the Office of Communications and Marketing to develop print and electronic content.
  3. Serves as content owner for COM-C social media sites; assists COM-C leaders with social media engagement.
  4. Serves as media/outreach contact person for the COM-C working with the Office of Communications and Marketing.
  5. Supports academic and outreach efforts with event support (Alper Awards, graduation, awards dinners).
  6. Manages the content on the COM-C pages on the UT Health Science Center's main website.
  7. Creates and updates various communication modalities, including electronic (i.e., blogs, newsletters, emails) and print formats.
  8. Develop press releases and/or new stories for the website and local press.
  9. Completes special projects as assigned by college leadership.
  10. Promotes alumni involvement and financial support through regular email communication.
  11. Organizes and hosts the biannual alumni meetings.
  12. Collaborates with COM-C leadership to develop other opportunities for alumni engagement.
  13. Identifies target audiences and, with input, determines the best ways to present information to internal and external audiences.
  14. Perform other duties as performed.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of directly related experience in communications, marketing, or related area; OR a combination of education and experience to equal five (5) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain excellent working relationships.
  • Ability to plan and organize work and meet schedules and timelines under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of social media sites are necessary.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
